Putin: Raising peoples’ incomes key task in next few years

MOSCOW, May 7 (PRIME) -- The Russian government’s key task for the next few years is to raise real incomes of citizens, President Vladimir Putin said, as cited by the Kremlin on Monday.

“On the whole, our key task is to significantly raise real incomes of citizens. And there is a good base for it now. General economic stability has increased, and the economy managed to cope both with a sharp fall in oil prices, attempts of sanctions pressure, and fluctuations of the global conditions,” the statement said.

The government’s actions allowed Russia to overcome recession and ensure recovery in many economic sectors.

Putin also said that it is important to develop modern approaches and ensure continuity of government work.

“It is important to maintain and develop such modern approaches and on the whole ensure continuity of work, continuity and consistency in the country’s development, including a clear working rhythm in the upcoming period of formation of the new government. I’m counting on your support, responsibility and professionalism here,” he said.

Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said the president met with government members late on May 6 and thanked them for their work.
